About PatientForward Design
PatientForward Design helps healthcare organizations create websites that are clear, inclusive, and built around real patient needs.
I am Gayle Karow, a healthcare UX and accessibility designer with deep experience in healthcare administration and revenue cycle operations. I founded PatientForward Design to help clinics and healthcare organizations communicate clearly, meet accessibility standards, and build patient trust through thoughtful design.
After more than two decades helping patients navigate insurance and billing challenges, I saw the same frustration repeat itself. Most of it started before a claim was ever filed. It started on the website. Patients could not find hours. Forms did not work on phones. Information was buried or unclear. I founded PatientForward Design to change that.
I believe clarity is a form of care, and every patient deserves a website that helps them move forward with confidence.
I am a member of the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP), and I stay current with evolving accessibility standards and best practices. I work with independent practices and healthcare organizations across the United States.
Accessibility is the Foundation
Accessibility is not only about meeting ADA requirements or following WCAG 2.2 AA standards, it is also about empathy. When websites are easy to read, navigate, and understand, they reduce frustration for patients, staff, and caregivers alike. Every design decision supports clarity, trust, and better outcomes.
AI Visibility is the Next Layer
AI now plays a major role in how patients search for information and make decisions. When a website is structured clearly, written in plain language, and supported by accurate schema, AI systems can interpret it correctly and share it with the right people. Optimizing for AI helps ensure patients receive reliable, trustworthy information wherever they search and that your organization’s message remains clear in an evolving digital landscape.
What I Promise
Every site I design leaves my hands fully accessible and aligned with WCAG 2.2 AA and ADA compliance standards. No exceptions. Each build includes AI visibility from the start: structured data, entity clarity, and architecture that helps AI systems understand your content. I create human-built websites that are ethical, clear, usable, and inclusive. Every decision is designed to reduce cognitive load, increase trust, and support real people in real moments.
Nothing leaves my desk unless it is clear, accessible, and built to perform for both people and AI systems.
